Maybe its just i never liked Harald much and was tired of seeing him escape death by luck. The 1 on 1 fights were fun to watch and felt badass, they could had used them more often and especially in some of those situation. Its like the show used the rules when it wanted to. The way they handled it was a disapointement. She could had even challenge Harald in a 1 on 1 fight. while Gunild got put aside because Harald is back? The peoples loved Bjorn and were loyal to him, and they surely knew how she was a great fighter too. Why does Ingrid end up Queen and everything just cause she was married to Harald. I really didn't like the way Gunild died. Ultimately Ingrid end up as the queen of Norway? Again a character i just didn't like that much. I know the vikings are supose to have visit Newfoundland and its not a bad thing to add it to the show, but i felt the used the last remaining "good guy" of the show on this and it felt like a waste. I just didn't care too much for this whole substory as a whole. Yet he spend the majority of the season either in Iceland, on a boat, or in that new world (is it supose to be Newfoundland? I watched in french, and they never actually called it Terre-Neuve, the french name, but they do mention a "new land") Ubbe was one of the character i prefered for a while, balanced, not cruel, still a bad ass fighter, but prefering piece. I feel this whole story part was meant to put Ivar and Hviserk back together and kinda giving Ivar some humanity and making us care more for him as he was pretty much the lead at this point. I didn't care too much for the russians, Oleg was interesting as a character but his death was disapointing. Not getting backstab by Ivar who for some reason roam battlefields limping and nobody attack him despite knowing he is the commander? If you are to take down Bjorn, make him get overwhelmed by a ton of soldiers or something. Bjorn has a bad ass death itself, and that episode as a whole was good, but making him die in the first episode of 6b left a void, not to mention the way he got wounded felt so weird. Lagherta does have a bad ass fight just before but the way she died itself felt disapointing to me. I understand its a time where peoples rarely lived to an old death, but they killed characters left and right in the final season and it really took down the story telling. Not to mention by the end the only character left that appear to be part of the good guys is Alfred, a character we had not seen for a while. Hvitserk litteraly become a druggy and mad at one point because Ivar burned his wife alive (and killed the previous one too) and at the end he stays loyal to him and mourn his death? Ivar always appeared as an antagonist to me as well, being cruel, malicious and everything, and again making him die a hero or something felt underwhelming to me. I could go on about how dispointing the payoff were for every characters. He dies so disapointely, getting lost in the woods? Then they kinda give me a good death (as he take his killer with him, wich said soldier was so dumb.) Early on he burn soldiers just for fun and then as the show goes on he kidnap and rape women, oh and kill a princess and never get any punishment for this? Are we really supose to root for that guy? He always appeared as an antagonist for me, so i was very let down by his end. But i feel 6 took the cake in that departement.įor a start i never liked Harald. The show was always leaning on characters making dumb decisions (keeping someone alive while they should just kill them) and obviously we have to understand it happen in the 800 (i think?) and life does not have the same meaning as today. I enjoyed Season 5 overall despite issues. to be fair i did enjoy the other characters and what they brough to the show. I know there is a lot of different opinions, some think when Ragnar was killed, it was never as good, and honestly i felt the way he died was kinda dumb, its like they wanted to stay accurate to the real death of Ragnar but at the same time not making him "loose" in the show, so they had him pretty much commit assisted suicide.Īnyway. And quite honestly, i think i won't add 6 to finish my set unless i get it VERY CHEAP. But for the final season i just rented them at the video store as they were 35$ each half in stores. Bough Season 1 for a mere 10 or 15$ CAD and kept buying seasons as i finished one. I started this show right after Game of Thrones ended.
